Series: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Point in Canon: She’ll have been twenty when she was taken
Affiliation: Russia
Code Name: Skylark
Length of time character has been in the setting: A year
Background: Hibari was the head of the Disciplinary Committee of Namimori Junior High and ruled the city at large with a number of violent and underhanded means; she was a veritable terror, feared by the student population for her violent punishments for rule-breakers. Through the machinations of Reborn, the home tutor for the next boss of the Vongola Mafia family, Hibari was ‘introduced’ (violently) to Tsuna and co., the people who would eventually become his famiglia. Hibari maintained an interest in Tsuna, but mostly in Reborn, whose strength intrigued him.
When an escaped mafia convict named Rokudo Mukuro began causing trouble in Namimori, Hibari took it upon himself to investigate and was subsequently captured and held prisoner while Tsuna’s group fought their way into Mukuro’s hideout. It was at this time that Hibari tamed a small yellow bird, Hibird, away from the opposition. He was eventually freed from his captivity, and though he was heavily wounded he assisted Tsuna is defeating Mukuro. Likewise, he was later recruited to be the Vongola’s Cloud Guardian during the battle against the Varia for the Vongola rings, the items that would secure the next heir and his guardians. Hibari was convinced to accept the ring and the role after being defeated by Dino, a tutor hand-picked by Reborn to train him.
Soon after Tsuna was transported ten years into the future, where he met the older version of Hibari, who had spent the time leading up to his intro researching the mysterious ‘box weapons’. It was also revealed that this older Hibari had been plotting with the older Tsuna and the older Irie Shouichi to bring down Byakuran, the powerful and sinister head of the Millefiore family. Eventually older Hibari is replaced by the younger Hibari, who joins the rest of the younger versions in fighting the Millefiore.
Personality: Hibari is something of a very powerful, very terrifying bully. He is obsessed with his school, Namimori Middle, and the surrounding town will resort to violence and several other underhanded means to maintain the city to his standard of ‘discipline’. He doles out violence because he’s bored, or as punishment, or just because he’s annoyed. Sometimes he enjoys toying with his prey, setting up almost impossible to win ‘games’ and then biting the unfortunate victim to death when they inevitably lose. There is no-one to check him, due to his strength, and so he is arrogantly confident in everything he does. Under no circumstances can he admit defeat, even when his body is near inoperable. He will fight even past to point on unconsciousness to win. Despite his aversion to loosing, he craves strong opponents, and once one is found, he will pursue them to the ends of the Earth.
He is especially offended by what he refers to as "crowding" (see: people crowding together), seeing it as disgusting and, an irritating habit of ‘herbivores’. His fiercely independent nature will not ever allow him to depend on others for assistance, and any aid he receives will be viewed as a favor and paid back as quickly as possible. He hates being restrained, whether by a debt, a feeling, or a physical tether, more than anything.
Hibari is not a strictly honorable person: he will attack the weak, though he wouldn’t necessarily bother, and he does get money by extortion. But he does abide by his own rules. He’ll never renege on a deal, and he is always well-spoken and well-kept, the picture of respectability.
AU Background and Personality: Well first of all, Hibari was born a girl and named Kyoumi. Like her male counterpart, her early history is still unknown.
She was a prostitute for a couple of years in one of Japan’s “Soapland” style brothels where she eventually caught the eye of a fairly established Yakuza boss. He bought her out, and she remained with him for a year as his lover. During that time, she began to build a power base within the family by gaining the loyalty of the boss’s men. She demonstrated her own competence and strength and simultaneously undermined the boss’s. When the time seemed ripe, she killed the boss, and all of his ultra-loyal followers. She set herself up as the new boss of the family with the help of the other core members, including the man who would be her second in command, Kusakabe Tetsuya. Her sudden, violent rise to power created many waves, and she was fiercely opposed by other gangs: she subdued every one of them, whether through negotiations or violence, and after only half a year she moved her base of operations from the crowded, noisy city to the quiet town of Namimori where her business continued to flourish.
Kyoumi is fairly close, personality-wise, to a younger Hibari, though the aspect of his personality that toys with people is more emphasized. This is mostly evident in her willingness to use her body and her looks: she knows how to be seductive, and if it serves her purpose, she will be. Her willingness to touch people makes her no less scornful of them, and she’ll just as happily use violence. Dealing with volatile relations with other yakuza gangs made her somewhat more considerate--or calculating--when it comes to dealing with people on a professional level, but she is still highly impulsive and prone to violence.
Sample Post:
This is Hibari Kyoumi, codename Skylark, reporting on my latest mission to America to gather information on the state of the organization known as Echo Force.
Their recruits are numerous, but they are weak and puerile and crowd together like sheep scenting a wolf. It would have been a small matter to slaughter all of them, had this been my objective, but it would have been a waste of time. They are too easily distracted by herbivorous concerns like the assets of their instructor. Such infantile things can only serve as fodder, and it is highly doubtful any one of them will be able to successfully infiltrate Russia.
Agent Mocking Bird is a different matter. She seems strong. Can I kill her? It would deprive Echo Force of a valuable asset, and she is a well-known figure. Her death would have an impact, perhaps provoke a show of fangs from the opposition. Both Russia and America are getting lazy and complacent throwing stones at each other from across the ocean. We could easily crush them and take back the Rasputin Machine, so why--
Don’t interrupt me. I’m wandering off into my own personal opinion? My opinion is fact, so stop your whining before I bite you to death.
